Mr Edwards explains the the students about chitting potatoes |
The potatoes have been placed in an egg box with the eye of the potato facing upwards, they will then be kept in the staffroom until next week, when we will see if the eye has began to sprout.
How to chit
- Chitting is when we encouraging the seed potatoes to sprout before planting.
- The seed potato with the "eyes" facing upwards are put in an old egg boxes (left open), with plenty of natural light.
- The potatoes will be planted out when the shoots are 1.5-2.5cm (0.5-1in) long.

The group planting out the chitted potatoes today, in a potato bag, they have been watered and once they start to sprout we will move them to the allotment.
