Saving Energy

To launch Switch off Fortnight 2013, the eco group held an assembly for year 7 & 8, where they created a power point and talked about how we could all make a difference in school by switching out lights when we leave the classroom,  remember to switch of computers and projectors when not in use.

They held a competition to find out the most Environmentally Friendly Classroom, the classrooms were monitored for a week before the event started and they found that 1/3 of the lights and projectors that were left on when not in use around the school came from year 7 and 8 tutor groups.

The competition started with some tutor groups really trying to "make a difference".  They worked together to great classroom displays, monitored how often they emptied the paper recycling and the weight of the paper they recycled.  Labels were made to remind them to switch out the lights when they left the classroom.

The results will be published after 1/2 term

Switch off Fortnight 2012

This year for Switch off Fortnight, the Eco Group Members visited our classrooms during lunch break for a 5 day period.
They carried out an audit of which classrooms had left their lights on and their computers and projectors on standby.

We discovered that out of 70 classrooms an average of 20 classrooms left their lights on regularly.  We are  holdong an assembly in Feburary to share our findings with the school and highlight why it is important to "SAVE ENERGY" by switch off lights and appliances when not in use.

We will then carry out the same audit the following term to see if we have "Made a difference!"
